"Standard" vs "deluxe" heater.

My truck came with the base heater - I have to open the hood to adjust the temperature, which is not too convenient. I procured the "deluxe" cable controls and in-line temp valve. Are these parts a direct fit to my heater? Or, to ask it a different way, are the two heaters the same except for the controls?
TIA, Eric

1965/66 F100/1100: Both are fresh air heaters, but the Deluxe uses a different plenum chamber (heater box).

Deluxe has two cables mounted under the dash to a bracket to the right of the steering column. One cable opens the damper door to allow fresh air to flow into the plenum.

The other cable attaches to the heater water valve (C3UZ-18495-A) that is spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose.

The Economy heater has a manually operated shut-off valve (C5TZ-18495-A), that is spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose.

The following is a crappy picture, but it's all that's available. It's basically the Deluxe version used 1965/66 with misc parts tossed in for sheets and giggles used in 1967 only, 1968/72 only.

Both valves are pictured (at left), Economy to the left of the Deluxe.

I know this is an old thread, but i see bill posted
"1965/66 F100/1100: Both are fresh air heaters, but the Deluxe uses a different plenum chamber (heater box)."
So this means that simply adding the Deluxe Heater bracket and cables will not work on the basic heater box?
Also, is the longer cable available today? The one that goes to the valve? The 18518
thanks

The heater boxes are the same overall shape but part of the internals are slightly different. You can take the guts from a "deluxe" box and put them into an "economy" box. There are some slight differences between a 1965 and a 1966 heater box, too, but nothing that would preclude one from being used as a replacement for the other. The cable is available from Dennis Carpenter

If you want to get really fancy and duplicate the look of the rivets they used it's possible to use a tubular rivet and a slash peen to accomplish that, too. This is just one possibility. I use this in a hand press with a flat support anvil underneath

Craftool® Tubular Rivet Peening Tool — Tandy Leather, Inc.

The rivets I've used are these in the Nickel finish - I believe the 3/8" long ones (6/16").

Funny to see my old post from way back. The heaters are different externally, too. Compare the levers.
I swapped in a complete de luxe heater with new core and paint.
The old heater's now pumping out the BTU's in my buddy's '47 Packard, which was sold new in Vancouver without the optional heater/defroster.

I was considering the levers part of the internals. Even though they stick out the sides they can't be replaced without disassembling the box as far as I know so I lumped them in with the flapper valves that they control.

Yup, the box is the same. Both heaters have ON DEF OFF cast into the side but the de luxe has no lever to operate the flapper.
