Welcome to FTE lonnie I am sure you will gain some of the info your looking for from some of the more knowledgeable folks that own or have owned the 7.3L.

Lord knows the one person I know that has one raves about it because they havent really had many major issues with it for a diesel engine, in fact the guy I know who has it says's it is one of the best diesel engines that Ford ever made in reliability.

If you look thru the forums you should find the 7.3 forum with your year of truck in the forum category. I am sure someone will be able to help you.

Good luck and welcome to FTE!

how does the fluid look? smell? Have you checked level after warmed up and running in park? I apologize if I seem like I'm asking the obvious but it's sometimes the simple things that get overlooked.

I do agree with Pocketlint's friend... of all the Ford diesels the 7.3's are the most indestructible of all. Trans on these may be a different story though. :-/

Is it possible to get the info where the tranny was done? Hopefully covered under warranty.... especially if you can get prior owner to help (warranties aren't transferable in most cases) -though keep in mind he's NOT obligated to. Something to keep in mind if all the basics check out well

Thanks to all. I will be double checking all of the "vitals"as well as warranty info and replying with an update the truck is actually at my bosses house.I've seen pictures of the truck not actually been to the truck yet. I was just going by what I've been told and researching so I have a general idea what the possible culprits are, thanks again.
