Help with '99 F150 instrument cluster

I was reassembling my cluster after a cold solder joint fix and this piece fell out.

It's gray rubber about 1/4" in diameter and 1/4" high. Some sort of spacer I think.

Does anyone know where it goes? I looked at it for half an hour and I just can't see where it fits. Looks too important to leave out.

Found it! I pulled the cluster apart one more time and looked inside just as I separated it and realized it goes on the end of the select/reset button. The rubber piece fits into it and the other end creates just a bit of suction when it is pressed activating the chip that controls the select/reset function.

Back together and odometer works like a champ now.

Congrats on your repair . I've done the same thing on my 99 XLT . That rubber piece doesn't work by suction it is a springing devise that insures the plunger returns to the outright position after it presses on the micro switch
