Barbed fitting on radiator broke! Is this a whole radiator replacement??

Apparently it was cracked and I was installing my new coolant filter when the barb broke off on the top of the drivers side on the radiator. This is the fitting that runs from the degas bottle to the radiator...

So, what's the easiest fix?

Apparently I can drill and tap a barbed fitting into it. Has anyone done this? Any problems down the road?

Thanks.

this seems to be a pretty common problem, drilling and tapping a fitting into it is probably what i would try. i would try to keep drilling to a minimum though

Dorman makes a repair kit. You drill out the old nipple, and put an oringed flange through from the inside, and the new nipple screws onto that. If you are careful and use a nipple with pipe thread you can do that. It's only 15-16 lbs of pressure. Just make sure it doesn't block the path of the cap.

Not sure what year your Ex is but that radiator is at least 8 years old (2005 with 6.0). I doubt that plastic is going to hold up to drilling and installing a barb. A new radiator is only about $330 and will give you a lot more piece of mind than a temp fix. You can get all aluminum ones online but haven't ever used one. If I need to replace mine I will most likely go that route just to not have the plastic there.

It works just fine. It has been about 3 years and 250,000km since i broke mine and replaced with a brass barbed fitting. No leaks. used epoxy to seal threads.

I would give epoxy and a threaded barn a try. What's the worst that can happen, you need to replace it like you would have before. It should work if done right and in good condition

Good Morning
First time posting here I have a F250 6.0 that went into the shop to have the AC replaced the AC Tech broke the small nipple next to the larger top coolant hose from what I read easy break. Problem is that he the AC guy didnt tell me he had broke it and repaired with JB weld. Of course with a new AC we took it on a road trip and it leaked causing my truck to Over heat. In 3 years it never leaked a drop so I didnt figure I needed to keep such a close eye on it. Is this a typical scenario that the coolant would leak out? I had to ask the Tech if they had broke it and they admitted it Said thats the way they always fix this break OMG how many others have they broke?? anyways working with his insurance now Because it caused my EGR to fail hopefully nothing else is messed up. I will be asking for a new radiator as well since drilling it out is not a real fix but a better band aid than the JB weld

Anyone have any thoughts
