To do that you will have to change the rearend to one of a F-250. I don't know how the front spindle compares to one off a F-250. You might beable to just swap brakes or you may have to swap the whole axle.

If you want to maintain axle strength use a Dana 60 from a F350. At the same time you get a better gear selection. They may also be in HD versions of the 250.

Im not sure what years require the least amount of work, I have a 86 version for my 54 F350.

Hey Carl,

Will the newer Dana 60 gears swap into my original Dana 60 on my 56 F-250? If so, what years would work. I'm hoping to change out the 4.56 ratio at some point so I can drive it on the highway.

Yeah, my 54 had a 5.14 also.

George, that will take a bit of digging, keep reminding me.

Geroge newer gears should work. Since I can use newer gears in my Dana 44. You might have to use the carrier with the ring since with the dana 44's ratios up to 3.73 used a different carrier than the 3.92 and up.

You can get billet aluminum adapters to go from 6 to 8. They will offset your wheels about an inch. Call Bart at Michigan Off Road Tire as I know he handles them and would be better able to answer your questions about them. You can get a hold of Bart at (616) 546-3784.
