Anyway is it legal to eliminate the idiot lights or do I need to incorporate them into my new cluster?
I believe the only one required by law is the check engine light. The rest are really for your benefit even though they are usually to late.

I just wanted to let you guys know that unfortunately i made no progress over the weekend. My Girlfriend is leaving to go to Italy for a month for school tonight so i wanted to spend the weekend with her rather than working on my truck. This coming weekend is a long weekend so i have 3 full days to get back at it!

I am thinking of getting 2 5" Cobalt gauges (speedo & Tach) and 4 smaller ones for trans temp, fuel level, water temp, and oil pressure... what ever is on my cluster currently I'm going to include again. I am also going to look into a way to keep most if not all my idiot lights I at least want the blinker and check engine lights because the other ones are not crucial IMO except the high beam one but anything i can figure our how to keep i will.

The plan is to get the 08+ lens cut the back off and reuse the idiot light template most likely but cut a piece of metal to fill the cut section in the back and make a custom cluster.

I priced out some gauges for autometer to make a custom cluster and it would cost $784 for the same gauges i have now in my cluster. I will not be doing this right away but instead keep my current gauges and budget to eventually get those to make myself a nice new cluster.

One question i have is if i remove the cluster and incorporate custom gauges can i tap them into the original sensors or do i need to run new ones? Also if i remove my cluster will my accessories still work or will i need ot hook a relay up to my ignition to get them to turn on when the ignition is on?

My current idea is to buy an 08+ lens measure the openings and reuse it but if that doesn't work them i will cut the back out and make a metal plate to house the new gauges as well as my PRND21 and some idiot lights that i bet i can transfer from my cluster to a new lens panel that i could make. I may even cut the clear lens out of hte 08 lens and just use the shroud that way i don need to remove the metal plate every time i need to recalibrate a gauge or use the trip odometer.

Also Auto meter will put my current mileage on the speedo for me for $25 so no issues with that i can keep the same mileage on my truck and not listen to my insurance ramble about it if i ever get in an accident and they check the odometer.

Question for you guys, I'm looking over the cluster plugs and don't i need most of the wires and circuits integrated into the cluster for my accessories to function? Moving the Idiot lights appears to be extremely easy since its just power to a bulb then ground but there are a lot of control relays and such inside the cluster itself as well. A lot of it is indicators but the Battery Saver relay and accessory delay etc relays have me worried about eliminating it and making a custom cluster instead.

anyway, still have a few things to wrap up but aside from that the dash is complete. For my switches i built a bezel out of an old licence plate cover that i cut out and then i just snapped it in between the dash piece and the switches.

A little of both lol. Thanks I plan to get a lot done this weekend including a bracket for my fuse box rewire the headlight and dome light switch complete my engine harness etc. I will post lots of pics any questions ask away! The dash part is done.

Actually while I'm posting I can't figure out my steering wheel controls but I thought about using the cruise buttons for audio controls instead. I never use it in my truck and now with my espy I use that to travel long distances. If I plan to do a 12v swap can I keep the cruise control anyway? I will post up both 08 and 04 diagrams tonight right now I'm watching the dog because he is sick until someone gets home then I'll be able to get in my desktop and access my diagrams.

I was hoping you guys could help me figure this out, I gotthe ohm readings from the 08 cruise controls and they are as follows.

On - 2100 ohm
off - 500 ohm
Set + - 600 ohm
Set - - 302 ohm
Resume - 1100 ohm

Here are the diagrams for both 08 and 04 controls and for the life of me i could not get a resistance reading from the 04 controls for some reason.

Which two wires were you measuring across (for both the 04 and 08)?

Sorry if this has already been covered, I haven't been on here in a while and haven't read through all the posts since then

No worries I didn't mention it I just tried all the wire on the 04 with no luck. On the 08 I used pins 8 and 9 which was a common wire and the power wire to the switch I believe.

I'll post the connectors in 1 sec.

I have no connector for the 04...the software i have doesnt have that one connector for some reason. I have a 4 pin connector and like the diagram i posted its a 5 pin connector i don't have one for some reason.

here is the 08 one though:

Nailed it! i needed to connect the horn to get the resistance readings from the buttons because they pass through the horn...stupid that that is how its wired but here are the resistances.

on - 0.5 ohm
off - 0.7 ohm
set/accel - 6800 ohm
resume - 2200 ohm
coast - 120.8 ohm
