D50 spindles

I'm replacing front bearings and races, I thought I'd replace the spindle bearings and seals too since they have probably never seen any service since new.

Is there a trick to get the spindles off ? Mine seem like their welded on. PB Blaster and a dead blow hammer aren't doing the job.

There is a step flange on the back of the spindle that goes through the hole in the knuckle. That's where they get stuck. Just gotta keep soaking and pounding. I have turned the wheels all the way to one side and used a long punch and hammer to hit them from the back, but it's hard to do.

Thanks Bill. Punching from the back was going to be my next move. I'll try that.

They make a tool for a slide hammer. It threads onto the spindle than you use the slide hammer to pull them off. Works like a charm and doesn't risk ruining anything

Get the tool that Brad linked to. I pulled the spindles on my D44 with a couple hammers, punches, and screw drivers. it took almost all day just to get them off that way.

I used the slide hammer attachment on the last D50 I did and it took three good hits with the slide hammer on each side.. so 10 seconds per side? Lol

Exactly. For $30 to save on HOURS worth of work, I'll do it every time
