not ford truck but a general fwd vehicle question

Long story short bro-in-law broke timing belt in a 03 kia car. Left with mechanic. Ordered engine. Mechanic is in process of swap now says transmission is bent?? Input shaft i have heard of bending but anyone heard or know of a transmission bending? I am assuming housing. Ill find out more tomorrow. Its after 6 here.

If that's the case, sounds like something he did if he has already pulled the old engine.

Wouldnt surprise me. This guy does shoddy work. I have fixed a couple of his repairs. I would have messed with this one but i know next to nil about modern systems. Neveressed with a fwd vehicle other than oil, plugs, brakes.

Sounds like something he did.

All newer engines are interference engines. When the timing belt lets go, valves get bent. Usually a head swap or just new valves and a belt would fix it.

Strange , the tranny issue . I see engines trashed by broke t belts often . Bent valves , busted pistons , bent rods , busted cyl. walls .The mixer !!! ??? No , sounds like a cover by the " mechanic " for screwing something up ! Something like ... O crap , I forgot that one last bolt and just broke the bell housing trying to force the tranny and engine apart !

Not strange if you hang the engine off the input shaft after taking that last bellhousing bolt out...

^ strange to me .. But I have seen that also . That ain't how I work , so it ain't normal . What Is strange to me is how people think they are saving money by having some shade tree , bolt breaking, wire cutting fool " fix " their vehicle .

JIC this guy has a shop, business liscense, legit business. But i dont have a clue how he stays open.
Case in point. This car. Wife and i are footing first part, or diagnosis of this one cause bro-in-law is lets call it financially inept. She starts telling me what he has done first day.

Compression test by cranking. Really??? Now im no ase mechanic but interference motor, broken timing belt, hmmm. All valves dropped correct?? Yep its going to build compression. I guess the tb is creating the intake seal and hoping for a clogged converter to seal the exhaust??

I called raising cain. I refuse that part of the job.

what is his excuse for the bent tranny ? Just asking , sounds strange to me . I have put belts on engines to check compression , so , that does not bother me . Heck , you can't ck with a broken T Belt .You can do an air hold test on each cyl , with a broken belt . But it ain't easy or accurate .

Well, I think the legal issue of the bent tranny is where the rub is. Let's say he did it. How do you prove he did it and it wasn't like that when it got there? It's a your word against his legal debacle and you probably cant successfully sue him and win.

So back to the compression test issue. If it is an interference motor then he probably bent and smashed whatever wasn't bent and smashed as well as re bending and smashing what has been. This guy sounds like a meathead and a deal with the devil may already be in progress like it or not.
