Hey all.

New member from The Bronx, NY. About a month ago, the wife and I had no other option but to get a different vehicle. She chose our 2002 Explorer XLS, and I must say I couldn't be happier so far! With the exception of the "technical issue" from Ford that I keep hearing of (the loud whine in the rear at highway speed), and the "door ajar light" problem which I fixed by reconnecting the ground wire, she is a great vehicle! I'm looking froward to lots of years with her...but are there any other issues that we should be aware of?

Hey there Matthew, welcome to FTE! it seems like you married a good one . The Explorer is a great SUV, which won't give you much trouble, other than wear items on a 12yo vehicle, you would do good by searching for a report on it and checking if there are any services/recalls and if they have been done.

Encho, I actually called Ford's recall line when I got the Ex because I saw a LOT of recall notices for it. Thankfully, when I gave them the VIN number, they said everything was taken care of!
