Window regulator spring clips

Well the F5 is going back together after a complete frame off restoration. This might sound stupid but I have restored the window regulators but I cannot figure out the purpose of the spring clips at the end of the regulator arms. I removed them thinking the window u channel could be removed but the bolt heads are bigger than the holes in the arms. Anyway if you have any ideas or info let me know. Thanks.

The glass run channel at the bottom of the glass fits over the two round thingies on the regulator arms. The clips then fit over the round thingies to hold the glass run channel affixed to the regulator arms.

Thanks, seems like pin heads are mushroomed

And will not fit through the holes without grinding them back to the original diameter. This is not the only strange think on this old boy. Left hand threads on the driver front wheel took me awhile to figure out. One thing I have learned on this project is that more torque is usually not doing anything good.
