I think Glenn is right, I wouldn't mess around trying to fit the old wire mesh inside a new filter..

At the unfortunate cost of the OP's turbo he saved me a possible world of frustration.. I have a NAPA 6637 on the shelf waiting to go in w a host of other parts; I remember when I bought it I was thinkin y is there no mesh on the inside of this F'ing thing!! Come to find out.......!! I guess it's stayin on the shelf!! Thanks..
