Questions.....

So a year and half ago I had to pull a head to get one of the glow plugs out due to it swelling I replaced my glow plugs with Autolites, not realizing that the swelling issue was brand specific to Autolite. When I put my injectors back in I used the original O-rings. I know I need to replace the ones on those 4 injectors, but should I do all 8 while I'm at it? This is my dump truck which just hit 100K miles. I have 8 new Motorcraft glow plugs on my bench, am ordering a new GP relay, and plan on doing the .50 cent mod and at least the 4 injectors that I had out. I'm also replacing my dipstick tube nut with the kit from Strictly Diesel, because my original one got screwed up due to not being properly installed. I've already redone my turbo O-rings last winter. This trip under the hood is intended to fix all the stuff I screwed up when I pulled my engine. Is there anything else I should change out as far as other o rings go? I was thinking about the fuel bowl drain o rings, but not sure which ones they are on Riffraff's site... Thanks ahead of time

I've read a little about Rich's (tugly) injector problems. Do I need to replace my injector hold down bolts and use thread locker, or am I fine with what's in there since I'm stock with no HP upgrades? Obviously I plan on torquing everything...

I had bad luck... that's about it. To play it safe, really clean the threads in the heads and on the bolts, and get them really dry. Apply a small amount of blue thread lock to the bolt and to a Q-tip. Insert the blue Q-tip into the hole just before inserting the bolt. Rules:
  1. Don't overdo the thread lock, you can hydrolock the bolt before it's properly torqued.
  2. Don't use the thread lock gel - that got me.

Thanks Rich. I did a buzz test and a CC test today. I knew that I had a weak #6 injector from before, but wanted to see if the code was still there from when I had them pulled last Dec. If I have a weak one, I want to change it out on this safari under the hood instead of prolonging the agony. I have no loss of power, no additional white smoke, no indicator of a problem other than the codes for #6 and #8 injectors. Now, I know #6 needs to be changed, (due to running low on oil and not understanding how these injectors work 2 years ago) but I'm assuming #8 is normal on a stock truck to have a code, right? Also, I'm starting to wonder if I'm loosing coolant due to bad injector cups. Truck only has 102k on it, but could I have screwed them up in my ignorance/ low oil? If I'm looking at doing an injector, injector o rings, possibly cups, and a few o rings on my HPOP, maybe I should just pull my engine? I could return the $300 dipstick tube adapter and put a stock replacement back on if I did... Is it worth yanking it out again?
