280000 on 7.3 PSD should I trade?
I have a 2001 7.3 PSD 4X4 F350 I bought used about 100000 miles ago. Best I can tell it is stock with no mods. Has an automatic trans. I have cleaned the filter in the tank, replaced the position sensor X 2 and replaced the water pump. Also new fuel pump and a couple of fuel filters. All over this time. I change the oil somewhere between 4000 and 5000 miles. I use diesel klens most of the time. Seems to run fine but with 280000 and I am planning to pull a 5th wheel, 30 ft. 10000 lbs across country. Not sure if I should trade for one with less miles, try for a new one, may be a problem financially, or stay with the one I have. Do like the 7.3 and not sure of the ones after. Any advice?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Trust it. You know your own truck. It is now considered broke in. I drove for a shuttle service part time years ago and all they had were 7.3 vans. Most had over 600,000 (six Hundred Thousand) miles and still running strong. A little TLC will go along way. Change the filter on the trans and do a flush on the trans oil.

I just rolled over 400,000 Monday and I have never had a valve cover off. I have owned this truck since K and have not had reason get under the valve covers. Still starts when it is 10 below and is getting the same mileage it always had so I would not uses mileage as a basis on deciding weather to keep a 7.3.

Should I Trade
I have 2 7.3 PS Diesels and only you can determine what you feel about your truck. My 97PS has 430,000 on it and I have done nothing to the engine other than water pump, alternator, starters, and power steering. I pull 15-17K to Vegas 2-3 times a week in the winter. I bought the 2002 with 132,000 recently because I wanted the Lariat package to pull my 34 ft 5th wheel. I went with the 7.3 and I have confidence in both my vehicles. good luck.

I wish I only had 280k on my truck. 10,000 lbs. isn't anything. On a motorhome, it's the wind resistance that will make it a big deal.
Don't tell anyone, but I've pulled 22k loads with mine when it had over 400k on it. A little slow in the get up and go department, and stopping distance left something to be desired, but I wasn't scared it wouldn't do the job.

All of our 8 company trucks with 7.3s have over 250k, and at least 5/8 have over 300k, including 2 with over 400k ('97 F250 w/ 420, '00 Excursion w/ 454k). We've treated the trucks like gold and they treat us the same.
I couldn't imagine trading my personal 7.3 for anything while its running well, I believe I'll run her til she dies!

The first post was probably correct. I think I will keep it for awhile. Was very informative to say the least. Appreciate all the comments. Need to get a trans. temp gauge. Have had 3 diesels in the past, one Dodge 250 1991 which was a great truck had 250,000 and was running strong (traded to get a newer 1999 Dodge and a back seat(case of lemons) Now the 7.3 and think I will stop here. Thanks again
