Parking Brake Cable Woes - 1977 Ford F250 - 2wd

Hello everyone, been a while since I've posted.

Work on my daily driver, 1977 F250, 2wd Standard cab, 133" wb. My serial # is Z00262.

Need the rear parking brake cables are mine are seized. There are two options from Dorman's website for each side. Below are the specs:

Left Rear :
C93200 - Housing 43" / Overall 64.5" AFTER serial # Y60,000
C93203 - Housing 42.5" / Overall 68" BEFORE serial # Y60,000

Right Rear:
C93199 - Housing 33" / Overall 57.5" AFTER serial # Y60,000
C93201 - Housing 33" / Overall 60" BEFORE serial # Y60,000

I believe what I have in bold is what I need for my truck, based on the serial #. I can't get an accurate measurement with the cables on the truck and I don't want to pull the drums off.

My question is: what is the difference in the trucks with the serials #'s that there is a change in the cable lengths? Do I have the correct cables bold-ed above?

Lenny

I would think the 10" difference is for Supercabs. I don't see why reg cabs would need two different sizes??

You'll see why, when you take a look-see at all the different rear cables listed just for 1976/79 F250 2WD Regular Cabs. Mind Boggling!

Left: Parts catalog applications / Right: Parts list 40A ~ rear brakes cables are 2A635.

Lots of different cables to choose from, doncha think? Specific GVW's make a difference, before/from serial number Y40,001 makes a difference, 1976 only, 1977 only, 1976/77 same yadda yadda yadda!!

Was just coming back because I remembered that one side was longer on my truck, but looks like ND has better info. Hopefully he helped you. :P

Amazing! My '77 F250 2wd is the lighter 6200 GVW

Well, I broke down and took my cables off...here are the results.

Left side:
Housing 43.5" Overall cable length 79.5"

Right side:
Housing 38" Overall cable length 72.5"

I see some cables close, but they do not correspond with the Serial #.

Nothing seems to match up from what I've been looking for on Dorman's site.

Still no closer!!!!

BroncoGraveyard also has a bunch of applications, but they list 108" cable for your truck. They have many options, you might just call them and see if they can find something close to your size. They are not that expensive.

The serial number has nothing to do with it, since your '77 F250 has a 6,200 lb. GVW

Look at the Ford truck parts catalog application chart in post 3. Parts list 40A 1977 F250 with 6200-6900 lb. GVW

The following are the only cables for your application:

D7TZ-2A635-C (replaced D6TZ-2A635-A) .. Right Rear Parking Brake Cable / Obsolete

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 3 = 800-543-4959.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
D7TZ-2A635-D (replaced D6TZ-2A635-B) .. Left Rear Parking Brake Cable / Obsolete

GREEN SALES CO. has 3.

btw: I see you're a '55 Olds fan ~ My mom's '55 Olds Super 88 2dr HT had power windows in the front, crank windows in the rear.

Hey Bill, I bought a new '83 Mustang GT convertible in September of '83. It had the same deal. The front windows were power, the rear were manual.
I always guessed the reason was the convertibles actually started out as coupes and were sent to an outside source to be converted. The coupes didn't have roll down quarter windows and Ford probably felt they could save some money by not having to engineer the power window mechanism.
And when I was a little kid, my mom and dad had a '54 Chevy, it too had power front windows, manual rear windows.
Highjack over .
