No low end power. How can I check VGT actuator?

Whenever a VGT inquiry comes up I am always surprised this method isn't mentioned more often:




You can easily duplicate this by having someone rev the engine and watching for actuator movement thru the inspection port.

The only way I have ever seen a turbo have 0 boost is to be locked up. A bad vgt solenoid or stuck veins will cause low boost or long spool times, but not 0 boost.

The more common issues I have seen cause no boost is blown off CAC tubes, blown CAC side tanks or map sensor hose damaged or off. Those are the things I would check first. If nothing is found wrong with those things, I would pull the inlet tube off the turbo and check to see if the shaft will spin.

Just got a truck at auction that wasn't boosting and throwing a code for ebp sensor. Found harness unplugged, plugged it in and truck runs great now. Just something else to look at.
