Lookin good man, what's the plan for the suspension are you lifting it or stock height? Also what tires are you planning on running?

 

I bought some new leaf springs (stock)and for tires I don't know what's the biggest I could fit without causing any problems. But would like some good size ones. Any recommendations?

My 85 has re-arched springs with 1 extra leaf all the way around and I'm on my second set of 285/75/r16 mud terrains now. Clears fine even before the SAS so I know you will be able to fit 265s and I think you'll be fine with 285s. I had BFG KM2s first, wore decent but the junk ttb front end wasted them too early to save them. I now have Hercules Trail Digger M/Ts and I really like them.

 

How many leafs 3/1/1rear 2/1 front?

 

I am not by my truck right now to confirm it, but I believe there are 3 leafs on the front and seven or so in the rear. They just added 1 to every spring so whatever stock was +1.

 

Mine only has 3 with one helper in the rear and 2 in the front. Is it a rougher ride with less leafs.

my daughter walked in and said it looked like Christmas with all the stuff hanging, I agreed.
Pulled the carrier out and replaced axle seals in the D60
Positioning axle for install. I lost some time during reassemble do to getting the wrong bolts twice from the company I ordered the leafs from.
New shoes,wheel cylinders, springs and the whole 9. Plus some dog hair on the studs!

I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my truck.

 

I would think less leafs would make it ride better, mine rides like a brick haha. Also mine is a 250 HD so I think the springs might be different. I reused my f250 springs on the front and was told that they are different than the f350 springs later on, which would explain why it rides so rough. The axles are lookin good dude!

 

Generally more thinner leaves will be smoother than less thicker leaves given the same weight rating. The more leaves the more progressive it will be but it will also travel farther to carry the same load. There's no free lunch.

Great work btw. Any plans to swap the c-clip rear for a full floater?

When I was looking at the springs on SD truck springs I searched for 85 f250 and 89 f350 there was quite a few different options but I think they all fit. Just different load ratings.

The diff covers were painted with por Metal Mask. I really like the color! But the pitting in the cover looks kind of crappy up close. I think I'll high build over that, sand, and paint it again.

I did some painting with the metal mask yesterday with a cheap HPLV gun that I just got. Things junk! I'll have to take it back, there's no way ill be able to paint the body with it.

 

When I went and got the front end the guy had the full floater there but I didn't have the cash I'd like to get one and put a locker in it but it might have to wait till later. Originally I never planed on changing the front end but the more I learned on this and other sites the more I wanted to change it. Who wants to be changing ball joints and tires all the time? I did invest in the whole axle rebuild kit for the D60 so it should last a very long time.

 

The TTB axle isn't a bad axle per say but everything is worn out on them at this age. Replace all the bushings, particularly the pivot bushing and they do pretty well. With that said I'm going with the D60 on my SuperCab just because that's what I want.
