Transmission Issues on 07 6.0
Have 205,000+ miles on my 07. Transmission is acting up. Was debating on fixing or selling. If fixing, should I get a new transmission from Ford dealer (which their quote was $3,500+tax) or have someone fix mine. If I fix mine, is there anything that I should do different?
Any feed back would be appreciated.

Did the flush and external filter change every 30,000 miles as recommended. Just had the internal filter changed to ensure that it wasn't the problem (and they did find metal shavings in the pan when changing the filter).
Transmission hesitates when shifting into forward or reverse, doesn't always make it into 1st gear when coming to a stop and is ghost shifting when driving at consistent speeds.

I was having issues with my truck dropping shifts while on the highway a lot. Plus started to notice that when I reversed I was having to rev alot more then normal each time.
So suffice to say, I wound up getting my shopping list of parts from Sun Coast Converters. (Which happens to be in 819 Navy St Fort Walton Bch, FL and I believe they even do repairs there...)
Anyway, I wound up getting;
Ford 5R110 6.0L Converter triple disc 1600RPM Stall 2003-2007
Ford 5r110 ironpac 3 kit
Ford 5r110 billet input shaft
There were a few other smaller items I needed from Ford which was about $300 in parts, and the dealer I went to charged me $1,500 for the labor to install and they included a rental, fluids, and I only had my taxes on top. Suffice to say, I had $2,700 in parts from Sun Coast and now I have a transmission that shifts better than stock can handle all the power I will ever throw at it and unless I do something really stupid I doubt I will blow it now.
If it were me rather then throwing $3500 into a "rebuilt stock" transmission I would say if you dont need the converter then you can always do that later but thats one of the weak points of the 6.0L and 5R110's. So i ended up biting the bullet and put it in too.
Now that its all done I have put over seven thousand KM on it and I really love it, only issue I have to contend with is my cable I think is giving me issues sometimes the shifter isnt put into the right gear but thats a dealer quick fix I think.
But I would give them a call over at Sun Coast!!! They know their stuff!!!

Decided that I really don't feel like buying a new truck right now nor do I think mine would sell well with a noticeable transmission issue. So, looks like I'll be fixing mine.
I think I know which direction I am going to go with getting if fixed, but thought I would ask the question here just to see if anyone has a good reason for going a different direction. The debate is go to ford dealer and have them install a new one for roughly $3,700 which they can do in a day while I am at work and will provide a 3 year unlimited mile warranty OR go to a local transmission guy that specializes in Ford and can make mine better than stock for about the same cost (maybe cheaper) but will take three days (which means I will be renting a car....part of what makes the costs a little unknown) and only has a one year / 12,000 mile warranty (which for me would end up being about four months).

If it were my truck i would want the OEM reman, and the 3 year warranty is a bonus over the other option.

Exactly and lets not mention the fact that the dealership fixes it even if you buy and install it yourself as long as it doesn't fail due to an installation problem. It also comes with a new cooler and torque convertor.

You guys seem to be re-confirming which direction I was leaning towards. The 3 year unlimited mile warranty seems to be the best warranty out there (which supposedly Ford and the Ocala shop mentioned above) and the Ford dealer seems to be the least expensive to get it. I'll also note that the original transmission did make it over 200,000 miles (currently at 205k but taking the tires into account as they seem to through the odometer off by 5 or 6%, it is probably closer to 215k)
And yes, I have always changed the external filter with every transmission flush which I did every 30,000 miles (give or take with the tires in mind) as the manual recommends.
