Getting ready for my first tow with my 7.3
Good morning guys,
Well, 2 weeks ago I purchased my first camping trailer. I had wanted one for years, but due to economic conditions we just kinda forgot about it.
My dad has a friend that's close to 80 years old and mentioned he had a Komfort travel trailer he wanted to get rid of. I asked what size it was, because it would have to go in my driveway.
I measured 24.5 feet on my driveway, front to back. He finally called and told me 23 feet! I told him I was interested.
He told me he would bring the trailer home that weekend so I could take a look at it. He said dont feel obligated. If I did not want it, it was ok!
So, I went over to have a look. Its a double axle trailer, with a electric jack on the front. Needed a little work but pretty clean.
New Goodyear tires and Goodyear spare. New toilet and frigerator. It's a 1982 model, and sleeps 6.
I remember looking at one of these when I was a kid at a beach campsite. I remember saying, man that's the trailer to have!!! With the front window and big table right in front with bench seats.
Well, God was smiling on me heavy that day. Ronnie told me, well if you pay my last months storage which was 100.00 and 79.00 for the tags I just paid for you can have the trailer!!!
I was so happy I gave him 250.00 and told him to take the wife to dinner too!!!
Everything works great in the trailer, including the AC!!!
So, I am cleaning her up and she's polishing up nicely. Im a Good Sam member too and a camping world shopper, purchasing little things here and there and getting ready for our first beach trip.
So what do I look for when towing a trailer with my truck for about 4 hours? I have no aftermarket gauges in the truck, but it should be a fairly flat, easy and cool tow along the coast.
I have AAA in case as well if there's a problem. Just want to be prepared! He gave me a nice hitch, sway bars and a boat load of tools.
I will post pics after I have my coffee.
Thanks!

Sounds like a great deal, good for you.
The biggest questions with old trailers is usually the wheel bearing condition.
If they haven't been serviced. Would take a look at them. At least repack with grease and new seals.
I tow stuff that size all the time with my 97. Your truck should hardly notice on flat land. If your truck is in good shape it should be a breeze.
Have fun at the beach.

Thanks Matadore! My wife and daughter are going to love it! My daughters already planning a slumber party in it in the driveway..................LOL.
They told me I have to get a TV in it first so they can watch scary movies! I will at some point put a flat panel TV in it, then we will be good to go!
