Xtreme newbie looking at 1972 F250
Hi guys,
I am new here and automotively ignorant, so I hope I'm not being rude - many apologies if I am!
I just fell in love with a 1972 F250 that's selling for $1700 ... has a utility bed, 2WD and said to be a 390. That's all I know about it at this point. Will be looking at it tomorrow with my husband, who is a good mechanic but doesn't know Fords particularly. (We currently have a 1964 International Loadster, a Unimog, a 1992 Chateau Club Wagon 4x4, main vehicle is a 2000 Montero, and I've been driving a 99 Sentra.)
Question is, given that my hubby can bring his general experience to it, what should we be looking out for with this particular vehicle that could be problematic or expensive?
I'm looking for a vehicle that I can learn to maintain & repair myself and drive about 300 miles a month.
Many thanks for any comments, and again apologies if I'm being an idiot.
Patricia

Hello and welcome to FTE!
You are fine. This is a lot of what we are about. There are a bunch of good guys and gals here. Depending where in Arizona you are depends on worrying about rust. Phoenix where I am and Flagstaff is two diferent animals. As you know. Let us know if rust may be an issue. One of us can tell you all the usual places to look. Besides all the usual things to check your hubby already knows, I would say check cab mounts. Let me know if I can help since I also am a Zonie.

OOOH. You might reconsider that Bump(side). If there's a little seen there is usualy a bit more hidden. You might check craigslist online to find better Bumps out there before purchasing this one. My Bump I found on Phoenix craigslist and was actually up in Camp Verde. O rust. Off the top of my head check:
front cab mounts
roof drip rails (even in front)
bottom of doors
outer part of floor. under the scuff plates
