Speedo Noise

I just replaced the standard gauge cluster on my 91 F150 with a cluster with a tach. The switch went smoothly but I had a lot of problems releasing the speedo cable from the cluster. I got it apart more by luck than anything else. I put everything back together and when I took the truck for a test drive I noticed that the speedometer was making a lot of noise and there was even a thumping under the floor (the speedo cable). I wonder if I got the cable back into the speedo correctly. The speedo works. Everything else works like a charm. Could be the new one is bad I guess. How exactly does the release on the speedometer cable work?

Speedo Noise

To remove the speedometer cable you should just be able to squeeze it and pull to remove it. The thumbing underneath may be the speedo cable you could get under the truck and make sure everything looks ok on the automatic E4OD transmission the speedo cable enters just in front of where the drive shaft exits the transmission.

Hope this helps you.
