Started mocking up the bed parts today..

Not really sure I know what I'm doing but I felt better mocking up the bed rather than diving into the floor replacement.

a whole lotta nothing accomplished today!

Just basically finished up the frame section for the actual bed. Made my own mini tubs out of a boat fender available at either Northern Tool ot Tractor Supply. Found the size I needed and ran a tape line and cut it down the middle...instant pair of mini tubs!

Jrockdiddy to answer your question... I am going to weld a section of mild steel tubing. It's like 11/8 if I recall correctly. Mold it in and it should look fine.

Today we worked the bed rails a little bit and got the drivers side rough welded in..we made our ebd caps a little different than most...just to be different.. Also mounted the fan on the tabs that are welded to the radiator shell and mounted it....slow day not much to show but still progress!

Don, out of curiosity, what is a ballpark figure on the price of the steel you bought for the bed construction? I built the bed for my truck before all of the increases occurred and just wondered how much of a difference there was. I did buy more steel than I really needed for the bed as I built my tailgate and running boards with the excess.

Been following along on your build...........nice job.

Steel prices must have flattened back out a bit......that's in ballpark of what I spent on mine before prices shot up. It's going to turn out nice with a minimal investment.........well maybe a little more labor than buying a bed already made.

Are you considering building your tailgate?
