05 Ford f250 35x12.5x18

Happy thursday everyone!,

I just picked up an 05 ford f250 with 50k miles on it, Ive actually put most of those miles on it myself and bought it from my step-dad. He bought it new!

Anyways.

Im looking to put on some 35x12.5x18's, with the moto metal 962's.

I see a ton of mixed answers on if that will fit with a leveling kit or not, the truck I have is a lariat, i have no issue doing a leveling kit if its needed, but dont want to order the kit or the rims and tires if I need to do an actual 4 inch lift to get the rims to fit!

I would appricate any help!! Hope everyone has a great day!

I have seen trucks with a leveling kit or 4" lift fit 35's, I think more importantly is the wheel backspacing and offset. Since you have a F250 for the rear you can use F350 blocks which are 2" larger. With these blocks and a leveling kit you can maintain the factory bed high stance.

Although they will fit with a leveling kit, generally you'll want at least a 4" lift to go with 35's on 18's. Without any wheel gap it usually looks a bit awkward. 35x12.5 is the recommended size for almost every 4" lift manufacturer.

The 4 inch lift says something about needing to modify the exhaust on the v10 engines?

Yea, I'm assuming you might have clearance issues with the front driveshaft. I believe that was the problem. I forgot to add, you could get away with some A/T's on that tire size with a leveling kit and have it look good, but some aggressive M/T's may look a bit weird.

Alright.

Got my Moto Metal 962 with -24 backspacing (18 inch wheels) with my nitto terra grappler 295/70/18's.

Installed drivers wheel, fits when turning right, hits on inner fender pretty bad when turning left. (assuming be hitting bad when turning right on passenger side) No issues in the front.

My truck is a 05, crew cab lariat with the v10. and its the short box

Is it wrong to assume from what I coould see that a 2.5 spacer in the front, swapping the 2 inch block for a 4 inch block in rear, and new shocks all around would work fine? I really dont want to mess with having to do an actual lift kit.

Also, if it will work, is there anything else I need to change? I talked with a guy on another forum (non truck related) and he mentioned trac bar? and something else.

Look, here's the deal. There are a lot of assumptions, speculation, and opinion out there. I'll share some real-world results. A friend of mine has an 05-07 6.0L CC SB 4x4 F250 with 18" OEM wheels. He put 35x12.50R18 Goodyear MTR Kevlar tires on it at stock height. It fit perfectly and looked great. There was tiny rub at full lock on one side on the plastic inner fender liner that had drooped down slightly due to a broken plastic fastener. That was easily fixed by pulling that plastic piece back into stock position and zip-tying it in place to keep it from falling down again.

Last time I asked him about it after he'd been running it like that for about a year, he said he loved it, everything working great.

People forget you can run 37's at stock height on those trucks, though you will have to trim the front bumper just slightly. As long as you're not crawling rocks and looking for maximum articulation, you won't have a problem with 35's.

Perfect. My backspacing may have changed my situation. My 2.5 lift in the front and 4 inch block in the back should make a difference (well, replacing the 2 inch block with a 4 inch )

Thanks for your reply

trac bar relocation brackets are used when more than 2.5" is lifted in the front, just to keep good alignment for everything in front end.

if you just do 2.5" no relocation is needed, you can still do it, but its not necessary.

BIG advice is after you level it and get new wheels and tires go to a shop that will re-align the front end. that will help keep tire life. good luck and post some pics up when finished.

A simple level kit will work. Don't know if you'll have a problem with the front shaft hitting the exhaust though, I know mine did. One user on here bought a shaft out of the junkyard and had it shaved down to clear. I just deal with it when in 4x4.

35x12.50s with a 2" leveling kit, no trac bar reloaction, slight rub one way:

Same 2" kit, 34" tires but OEM so not spaced out as far, no rubbing:

Those 34s clear perfectly fine at stock height after pulling the leveling kit. So basically, 35s will clear fine with no lift if you keep the backspacing sucked in pretty tight. No need for 4" at all, 2" and an adjustable trac bar should cover almost every 35/wheel backspacing combo.

Front drive shaft is only an issue on V10s with factor 4.30s correct? Anything that came with 3.73s or 4.10s should have the standard D60 and be fine. I've never seen a Super 60 with 4.30s in person so I don't know what's different in the pinion angle to cause issues.

I have 35x12.5 nitto trail grapplers on 18x9" 0mm offset wheels on a stock height 06 V10. They were hitting the plastic lip under the bumper at full lock but trimming it back an inch took care of that. Occasionally kisses the fender liner while hitting a bump backing up.

You never stated what width your rims are.
If you went with 8" or 9" rims, then you would probably not have any rubbing. But it sounds like you went with the 10" wide rims which let the tire swing out farther when turning.

If they are only rubbing on the plastic inner fender then you can just wire it back to pull it away from the tire without having to add a leveling kit.
