Just read your thread. Nice job thus far! Nice to see another fellow deciding to stay as original as possible.

 

I haven't had any great strides to share so I have not posted anything for a while. Been really busy covering a lot more territory for my job- getting plenty of windshield time!
I have managed to replace everything for the door glasses except the wing window glass. I have those but have not yet set them in. This door glass project started out with the goal of just replacing the two broken door glasses, but it seemed a shame to put a new glass in a channel with nothing to keep it from clanging against the metal every time the doors were shut. So, I replaced the seals and anti-rattlers on both doors and sand-blasted and repainted the wing window frames.. Still need to order a new vent window handle for the left side too- it's on the list! I now also need to remove and reseal the from and rear windshields. I'm not much looking forward to that.
The picture of the truck was taken before the door glass repairs.

I have also developed a small coolant leak from the water pump. I checked with Mac's, Advance, O'rielly's, and AZ but no one can get a pump. Are there rebuild kits available or a supplier of reman pumps for the 226?

I don't know of anywhere to get a new or rebuilt water pump for the 226. I was looking online for one recently and had no luck with any of the usual suspects.

 

Try Sacramento vintage ford, they list a waterpump rebuild kit for 48-51 226. 69.95

 

That's great news if they have them or can get them. But the ad says they're currently unavailable as of January, 2009...

That pump seal should be pretty easy to get, looks just like the ones I carry for Stero commercial dishwashers. Graingers for one has a large selection of various sizes in that style. Get it out in one piece and match it up. Drive it out from the back side of the pump housing. Its called a type 68

 

For the door window replacement, what did you do to attach the four horizontal felt strips(2 for each door) to the inside of the door slot? I bought the entire window seal replacement kit and it came with the little clips but they don't spring back once pushed through the holes in the door and just fall back out.

Truck is looking great by the way.

 

I followed another thread's advice (sorry, don't remember which) and used 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (black). It is messy, but worked well. I just applied it to the strips and used wood wedges to hold them in place while it dried overnight.

If you search door fuzzies, I think you will find a bunch of threads with some very unhappy people trying to use the supplied clips.

When I installed the new ones, I opened the tabs as much as I could while still being able to squeeze the tabs into the hole. I also used a long screwdriver to try to reach up into the door to try to spread the tabs after install. This was only partially successful. I saw the many threads about this topic and wondered what all the drama was about, and I stand humbly before you today after going through this experience! What a royal pita! Breaking loose the lug nuts on those widow makers was less hassle! (But a great deal more work)

 

Love this! Just found it and think it looks great. I have no knowledge to add, but I will give a vote to no paint on the body, it looks great. Just put a coat of clear on it and leave it be. It has fade and rust in all the right spots.

 

I took old Stanley for a spin around the block today. I hope nobody gets motion sickness from watching it though- I put the camera on a towel on the seat, and the video is pretty darn bouncy! This is not my first venture out of the corral with the truck, but it's the longest one so far. I am still trying to perfect double-clutching. I still have to better tune in the timing- I believe it's a tad too advanced, and it sounds like one cylinder is misfiring, but I seem to be getting spark at all plugs. Many more things to do, but I wanted to share this brief trip.

 

That's an interesting perspective for viewing a ride. I liked it. You'll have plenty of time to master the clutch dance. Thanks for sharing.
