Dash goes black in 2013 Exp XLT

Hi
Has anyone had an issue with their dash board suddenly going black then coming back on after 20-30 seconds?

My 2013 Exp XLT with 4k miles has done this a few times but I can't pinpoint any reason.

Hi Deb,

Have you been to the dealer so they can check this out? I want to loop in your regional customer service manager as well; send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number and full name so I can make it happen.

Is it possible it's just 'rebooting' when it gets and applies a new software update via sync ?

I noticed the wife's did that a few times at the most INOPPORTUNE moments and after a while it came back on saying something like software update applied IIRC.

MOST updates warn you and let you say when it should be pplied, but not mft ! It can reboot right in the middle of a navigation guidance so you have the excitement f being lost

Hi jdadamsjr,

Software updates can only be delivered by a USB thumb drive. MyFord Touch will perform the "scheduled system maintenance" after detecting a degraded performance within its processes. This is to ensure the system's functionality is optimal. I would encourage you to consult with your dealership if the system exhibits a trend of rebooting while navigating.

What "maintenance" is being performed - just a Bill Gates reboot ?

The system reinitializes the operating software, much like a computer reboot. This is more of a failsafe after the system determines it is not running at maximum capacity.

My Wife's Sport had the same issue and after the last update it hasn't come back. Doing the update is a long process by the way, if you do it yourself. Honestly I still hate the sync crap and after having problems with both my vehicles I can honestly say Microsoft is getting worse and Ford should have known better.

We no longer have that problem either....

but it's because we stopped using it (my 10 year old Nuvi 5000 is on the dash now!)

either vehicles mft is just too unpredictable to trust anymore....
suggest you talk to Garmin on how to do navigation and then maybe the money I wasted on both my 2013's nav will become useful !

Hi
Since I posted my question about the dash, it has not happened again. The entire restraint system malfunctioned and some module needed to be replaced and I am currently having a transmission issue for the second time. I will post that in a new thread. Since I have to bring it for the transmission, I will ask about the dash going black.

I will post an update once I get the car back from the dealer.

The dealer had no idea why the dash went black. They said as long as I documented it to them that if it continues they can replace the dash before the warranty runs out.

This car is quirky. This weekend backing up, the car just stalled in the middle of the road when shifting from reverse to drive. It started right up again and runs fine but it's just odd.
