My long time friend Mike Janis just won Pro Mod at the Indy US Nationals, the most prestigious drag race of the year! 5.952 @ 241.41 MPH to Mike Smith's 5,955 @ 241.37. MOV = 10'!
About the only real Chevy part in there is the grill emblem (oh wait, even that's a vinyl decal!). Rules require a body that resembles a real car, The 13 Camaro replica body had the best wind tunnel #s this year, Last year's car was a Mustang, he's also used Dart, Firebird and Corvette bodies. The roof of the car is about 40" above the ground (about waist high).
Mike owns the oldest speed shop in Buffalo. Builds his own complete superchargers and injector systems in house, buys the as cast aluminum block and heads, does all the machining. He sells his engines and superchargers all over the country and as far away as Sweden and Australia. He won the NHRA Englishtown Summer nationals this year as well as the IHRA Pro Mod points championship twice. In spite of all that he is a friendly, great and humble guy.
Mike got a ,03 holeshot on him, it was like they had a rope tied between them all the way down. MOV (Margin Of Victory) approx 10'
Ax for that class and level of competition a 10 foot win is rather impressive! I would imagine there is a very big party going on. Hope you get to enjoy some of it
Did you ever do the math on how many times the engine rotates from the hit of the throttle until the 1/4 mile mark (or 1000' for the fuel cars)
Some surprising numbers.
I'm not there. I do plan to see Mike in 2 weeks at the 4 lane Zmax dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the NHRA Fall Nationals. We'll celebrate again then (twice if he wins that event as well!).
