sooooo bummed out...

I finaly bit the bullet and brought my 05 fx4 5.4 to the dealership, and got the cam phazers changed. I couldnt stand the embarrassingly loud ticking any more. Soon as i heard the truck pulling up to me all i could hear is the damn ticking, loud as ever!! i dont know what do do with it anymore.... maybe lifters?

How many miles do you have?? I had a loud ticking in my 05 and it was the passenger side exhaust manifold. Loud tick when cold and got quieter as things got heated up. On cold days it was real loud.

Just something to check. good luck.

Where the tensioners replaced? What is your oil pressure at idle?

Make sure all the spark plugs are tight. Phaser noise sounds more like a rod knock than a tick. I have seen quite a few roller rockers fail and cause a loud tapping noise which also damages the cam lobe. They should have looked at the cams when they had the valve covers off.

Phazers are the easy way out, was your diagnosis solid or a possible fix solution? Did you get to look at them? What was wrong broken vanes? off square? etc.

They sound and sometimes failed due to poor oil circulation, blocked passages sludge, bad VCT solenoids etc.

I ask about the tensioners because if the are leaking your oil pressure drops considerably. Did you check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge?
