Well, through a series of unfortunate events, my neighbors trampoline ended flying into the back of my 2001 Super duty. New tailgate is needed and ford is unable to order one... So my I was wanting some of my fellow FTE to give me opinions on what to do. order a new tailgate, like is on the 2011-2012, or 2013`s and deal with it not matching the body style, or try to find a used tailgate that is not beat all to hell?

It looks like your tailgate is $159.95 and you can use your existing hardware or order what might need replaced after you get it painted. Part # 49-8340

I've ordered from them in the past and haven't had any problems.

What do you mean they can't order one? There's no reason your dealer can't order it. If they won't then go find another one and order from them.

It will be cheaper to find a new take off from a newer truck though. Even easier since you have a white truck.

That`s what I said!!!!!! It seems like the dealer should always be able to order the part. Especially since I`m using the best Ford ddealer of the 3 here in Amarillo. They did agree to try and find me a used one, and charge me $175 more than what they pay for it as a fee for finding the part. That`s why I was just wondering about maybe putting a newer style on it.

The newer one look better to me. I think you would have to change one of the hinges as well. There's many threads about it I'm sure.

If you want a newer one you should look around your area for the truck outfitters. They usually have tons of brand new beds and tailgates that they will sell relatively cheap since they are taking up space. Lots of white ones too since those are the fleet standard.

I like the looks of that new tailgate! Your truck is even the same color combo as mine. I may take your advice and talk to some of these truck body places. Thanks guys!
