Navigation Upgrade for an F-350 FX4

Does anyone know if a Navigation system in an F-350 FX4 can be upgraded to a truckers upgrade. This is due to towing a 5th fifth wheel. I have to be navigated beneath bridges. We are unable to tow our fifth wheel through tunnels in the northeast.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I don't think there's any way to change or upgrade the stock system that comes with the truck. Ford isn't keen on software modification. You can buy aftermarket standalone trucker GPS systems, but that's about it.

Ya, I knew of them. It would have been nice not have an external unit.

Ford also, has said there is no upgrade.

Possible Option for You

Rand McNally announced last year that a Nav System Manufacturer was incorporating their RVND GPS product into an after market in-dash nav system. I checked into and they had a unit that would fit but it was around a $1000.00. Details are on my home computer but you might try Googling Rand McNally GPS or something.

Until you get the NAV question figured out, go to any large chain truckstop and buy a Rand McNally Motor Carrier's Road Atlas.

The front section of it has a restricted-height guide for Interstates and most major highways in every state.

You could be overthinking the issue a bit...I've traveled the north east extensively and have had few if any problems. Google the Good Sam sight...they have a great RV travel guide that gives accurate info on those issues, state by state.

With a fifth wheel camper or motorhome you are not allowed to enter into a tunnel due to having propane. In order to avoid the tunnels you need to go a different route. There are low bridges on Parkways. So, yes I am over thinkin' it. I can avoid any issues by taking the 84 to 81 when I'm heading south. It's also, a few hours longer.

I would have liked to added to my Navigation system in my Lariatt. Apparently, I'll be purchasing an external RV navigation system. Thanks for your help.

Again your over generalizing...just checked the prohibited list, they are:

NY city 2 tunnels and 2 bridges
all Boston Harbor tunnels
the one in Baltimore...and that I695 bypass is just a burp in time.

As for others elsewhere there are simply restrictions...mostly limited to shutting off the valves and some size limitations
