Bulletproofing in Progress (pics)

I am in the process of installing studs, bp egr cooler, oil cooler and dummy plugs in a 05 F250 and thought I would post some pics along the way. I won't be able to finish it today, because the bp egr cooler won't be here until Tuesday.

If everything goes smoothly, about 1 1/2 hour. If I run into problems, it can take 2 1/2-3 hours.

Hopefully they added the new fitting with the HPOP.

My previous neighbor had the HPOP go out and took it to the dealer (under warranty). They reused the original STC which we found while doing a stealth delete on the truck. I'm glad and so was my neighbor I decided to pop the HPOP cover to have a look.

Thanks Daniel for the thread, and the pics.

Are you checking the heads, or having them checked by machine shop?

Also how do you prep the block and the head surface?

I may be doing this in the future so I am wondering how guys are doing it.

Thanks

I had the heads checked at a machine shop. They had no warpage or leaks.

I clean the block with brake clean and lint free rags.

You use some sort of 3M disc to clean the surface? Those 3M discs with the rubber "feelers" are great for this.

Only if there is a lot of crud on there. I don't like taking the chance of leaving scratches in the surface, and even the plastic 3m discs can be pretty harsh.

I found something unusual about this engine.

This is an 05 truck and engine, but it had the 04 square standpipe and dummy plugs. I thought that engines with the newer hpop had the allen plugs and standpipes.

When I took the pic, I had changed out the standpipes but not the dummy plugs yet.

....which makes this an EARLY '05 engine, that likely has the EBP mounted to a bracket on top of the thermostat housing, as do earlier engines, and also has a MAF sensor, that later '05 engines don't have.
