Baby moon hubcaps on 15 inch ford wheels

I'm making good progress on my 51 F1, finishing all the suspension and steering, ready to install engine and T5 5 speed. I painted the wheels a week ago (85 F150 15") and thought I'd go ahead and put on the stainless trim rings, and baby moons.

Has anyone else had this issue...... the moons look like they should fit, and measure roughly the same (10 1/8"), though the wheel is slighly larger at the tab. They won't snap on. I even dented one a bit. Any ideas?

Thanks

I would try some of the ford truck ( dog dish or poverty) caps there everywhere and look pretty cool in my opinion. Especially if you polish them

I would check back with whoever you got them from and complain. Chances are you got a swell new chinese set and they measure things a little differently over there.

Actually, problems with the fit of new repro hubcaps have been an issue. I've seen the prices of the old, original baby moons go up quite a bit lately because of it.

How close of a fit are we talking about? Is it a matter of a millimeter or two.....or a quarter inch? One of my rims has a slightly larger opening (i.e. the bumps don't stick out as far as the other three). I bought a brand-new pair of hubcaps from DC and realized that particular rim wouldn't hold the hubcap tightly. So I wrapped a run of black electrical tape around the contact edge of the hubcap, and it tightened everything up. No problems almost 3 years later.
