I dont know how you can use the words stock and GM in the same sentence... tried counting the studs, but cant see them all.

Those ARE the proper words to use in the same sentence. Ford had no automatic transmission in '49-'50. Their senior/luxury car needed one to be somewhat competitive with Cadillac so they cut a deal: they bought Hydramatics and hung them on the back of the 337 (which by the way is a 27 stud .). Many '49s were equipped with B-W T-85 3 speeds with R-11 overdrive but once the Hydramatic deal was up & running, most customers opted for the automatic. Ford continued to use the GM transmission thru the '55 model in Lincolns even thought they had their own automatics in '51.

I knew the stud count, however the rest was an interesting tidbit of history. I know this thing wouldnt be a cheap rebuild, but it would look nice in someones f2 or f3.

Ahh, If only I had a big barn. Heck even a small shed. I would love to have that and be able to play with it.
