Wont Move in Drive

Ok so I bought a 1998 Ford Expedition XLT with the 4.6L - We drove it a week, when my wife was going down a road - had to pull over for a large hay bailer and when she tried to pull back on the road the truck will just rev up and not move.

When i purchased the truck it was stuck in 4X4 (high i assume) and the **** was in 2wd. When you go to put the truck into park, it grinds and I have to shut it off in order to get it into park, So we towed the vehicle home. A friend of mine said that the T case may be stuck in Neutural and said that the Shift motor was bad.

So I went to Oriley and purchased a Transfer case shift motor and installed it this am, I transfered the wires the same way they were before, It took the 4x4 light out , however it wont engauge to 4x4 High or low just A4x4 (all time 4x4) and .... THE TRUCK STILL WONT MOVE.

Any ideas, I drained the T case today and it was EMPTY just a tiny bit of oil which was BLACK! Im assuming my T case is shot? Would it be worth it to fill the T case just to drive it until i can get another one, Buddy said that they wont move if there is no fluid in it, doesnt make since to me but is worth a shot just to get to and from work if it will move.....

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you have a serious issue with either the tranny or transfer case. You might want to talk to a local tranny shop before you get in too deep, money wise.

Not on a forum.
My best guess is the problem is with the tranny since you're getting the grinding noise when attempting to shift into Park. Doing so is moving internal tranny components, not transfer case components.

It seems like to me the T case is stuck in Neutural and not allowing the truck to go foreward until it gets into a gear - I had this problem on my Bronco but it was a manual shift when i broke the linkage, i replace the linkage (at the time we were up in the hills and just pulled it with pliers) and it was back to moving again. Was hoping there is somthing simlar to this one the Automatic T case.
