Brake Line Size

Hi guys - my 2000 SD has a brake line that rusted through. The one that runs along the drivers side frame rail. So I need to get new line to replace it. Since I am nowhere near my truck right now, does anyone know the size of the steel line? Thanks in advance.

Brake line

I just did mine this past Saturday. I used 1/4 inch. I had to buy two 6 foot sections to make up the line. It took more time to do the bends then to actually install. I think the line is about 11' 6" so I had to put some 's' turns in the end to use up the space to make it fit. I just didn't want to take the chance of doing my own flares and having it leak. Now if I can just get the thing to stop vibrating so bad when I use the brakes, I will be in good shape.

i will never use steel lines ever ever again.
i replaced the lines in all my vehicles with the copper/nickle alloy lines.
very easy to hand bend, and you do not have to worry about them kinking, or rotting out ever again.

The stuff I got at Napa is, "Double-Wall Copperized Steel w/ PVF Coating." Should last longer than the other stuff.

i think that is the nickle copper stuff i was talking about Mike.

you can bend it by hand, and straighten it back out if you make a mistake to rebend it?

we have been using it for close to 10 years here in rust land.

Yep, it was easy to manipulate by hand. It is greenish in color. Pretty cool stuff.
