Is there a list on the forum of what parts are needed for specific maintenance chores on the 6.0 L? As a newbie to the 6.0L it would be nice to have a list of P/N's to review before I order parts or spend hours searching.

I have searched and not found many P/N's listed. It seems that Tousley now known as Autonation White Bear Lake Ford has changed the parts Fische a but. It seems to be less user friendly.

I am getting ready to do ball joints, springs and possible a track bar. I am wanting to know what I need besides the yellow o-ring for the hub. What are the SHOULD replace items when I am there.

I also have to do an oil cooler and have been searching for what all I need to have on hand. I have read comments on an updated cooler from the Ford, but can not locate it on a parts fische.


I read through the Tech Folder looking for a parts list for both the above items and did not find one.

One thing I'd recommend is doing the order over the phone, the parts guys there are extremely knowledgeable and I got help from them once they understood what I was doing.

One of the tough things about just a list of parts per job, is that there is overlap when say you are doing 3 or 4 things in the same area. So I ended up just building a spreadsheet -- great idea though...

What I found interesting was talking to mechanics who had jobs broken down on an x, y or z basis, that there was overlap in labor hours that they wouldn't acknowledge. I went with a shop that had a $35/hr higher base labor rate, but was conversant enough in what I was doing that they both knew the trick things to do, but the overlap. Their total bill (which they did shoot me an FTE discount) was hundreds of dollars less than the cheaper per/hr shop.

This is EXCELLENT advice. There are areas that are very gray when it comes to 6.0's and trucks (wiring harnesses, rocker boxes, heads/gaskets) and a good parts guy can get you out of a very expensive bill. Have your VIN handy.
