You are doing really good! We just got back from a roundabout trip to Austin, TX and our trip figured out to .38/mile. We did a lot better on the trip down (literally, 7000' > 950'). Coming back we were not only climbing the entire way but on one day faced a horrible headwind for 300 miles or so.
Probably a wash on the cost of plane tickets but a heck of lot more fun and relaxing!!

Now that you mention it, I discussed that with the wife and we only noticed three regens on the entire trip. Those where the sound of the engine changes and you seem to lose power and they did not last long. There may have been more but they must have been quick. I can only attribute this to the fact that the truck was doing what it was designed for - hauling/towing a load at highway speeds.

I recently worked up a bid to drive for a guy and take my own truck and stock trailer, 28' aluminum gooseneck with 6 bulls only weighs in around 14-15K. I figured an average fuel mileage of 7mpg but allowed for as little as 6. when my numbers came together i was looking at driving fuel cost of $.50-.55. In texas we have 75 mph speed limits and running on the interstate it obviously kills your mileage running that fast.
If you were getting 10+ then yes $.38 sounds awesome.
When i'm towing i average different with each trailer so a 5er getting 10 sounds phenomenal to me.

Speaking for myself, 62-63 seems to be the sweet spot for max fuel economy. Overall, and this was hand figured, not the Lie-o-meter, was 9.6.
If you are delivering livestock you clearly need to travel faster for the health and well-being of the animals getting the from point A to B in an expeditious manner.
On the other hand we are traveling for pleasure and have no need to be anywhere in particular at any time. In fact, if drive more than 4.5 hours a day I think I am in too much of a hurry. I also think the design of the 5er helps a lot, the front is rounded and more aerodynamic so it is not like pulling a total brick down the road.
