Carb Rebuild (Holley 750)

I have a couple Holley 4150 carbs that I purchased used and need to rebuild one of them for my 460. I'm fully capable of buying a kit and replacing gaskets etc. My question is, is it worth the extra money ~$100 to have a professional shop go through it, rebuild and test run it or should I just get the ~$50 kit and do it myself?

Any recommendations on a good carb shop?

Don't forget to add the cost for one gallon of solvent.

I'm all about DIYing a carb rebuild.

Didn't consider cost of consumables. Prolly adds $25 at least to the cost of doing it myself. That just makes the carb shop look that much better. Any recommendation on who to send it to?

The "Vacuum Secondary" kit on the shelf at O'Reily's is $29.99. Three cans of carb cleaner are $2.99 each for the store brand.

DO NOT TAKE IT TO A SHOP WITH A FLOW BENCH!!!!!

I haven't met one yet that didn't drill out the metering block. Apparently, Holley doesn't know what they're doing, so these morons go changing things and the carb is never right after that.

Rebuilding a carb is easy. Just make sure all the passages are cleaned out, all the old gasket material is off and the top of the floats are set parallel to the bowl when held upside down. Do all that and it'll be just fine.

Have to agree with these guys..DO NOT take it to a shop. If YOU rebuild it,then you will learn something. Holley's are very easy to rebuild...after it's clean, 45 minutes tops to reassemble. Then you KNOW what was done to it and if you have problems, you can post it here and will probably get lead in the right direction. If you have a "PRO" do it and something goes wrong, you will NEVER know what they did to it and will end up pulling it apart anyway.
