How long should one wait after a base coat/clear coat paint job before waxing? I have been told anywhere from one day to six months.
Thanks for your assistance!
The new paints and clearcoats are pretty much ready to go as soon as they dry according to the body guys I have talked to. They say wax away when you get it back. The old habit of waiting for 3-6 months goes back to the days of enamels and other paints that needed time to "set up" before you could wax them. According to my body shop guys those days have been gone for a long time.
I'm sure others will chime in here but that's what I've been told and I have waxed my rigs the next day after paint work with no ill effect.
My friend works in a auto bodyshop and he told that for repaints, wait 30 to 60 days before waxing in order for the clear coat to cure completely. Unless your rig is a brand new, so it can be waxed anytime.
