2000 excursion v10 to 12v cummins swap

So I have finally started my conversion on my 2000 excursion after about 2 years of buying parts an fig out what I wanted to do.
Ill start off with what I'm using an go from there an ill post some pics when I get them uploaded
I'm using a 12 valve industrial motor(the reason I used the industrial is because I got it real cheap 350.00 an the bus only showed 115,000 miles an it had been rebuilt the year before it was took out of service)
My factory 4r100 trans
I bought ford/cummins adapter plates for my stock 4r100 trans
Motor mounts came from autoworld
Destroked tach kit
PCS trans controller
He351cw turbo
A bunch more nickel dime stuff ill list as I finish my build
Any questions or suggestions feel free to ask or tell

So cool, I will definitely be watching this thread. A Cummins swap is something I would love to do.. sadly I have ZERO fab skills so I would have to pay someone and I just don't have the extra $10k do to it.

Definitely interested in watching your progress too. Thanks for sharing.

I was picking up some Rev X from a local small garage the other day. The guy running the shop seemed to know his stuff. He had an 06 F250 on a lift with the Ford diesel removed. I asked him what he was up to. The owner of the truck loved his truck but hadn't had a whole bunch of luck with Fords and the 6.0l diesel. He apparently had a few of them. The shop is doing a Cummins swap for him.

It was sort of funny but not ha ha funny when the shop owner asked me about my car and I told him I had an 03 X 6.0l diesel with 166k and his first comment was, "its still running? Not many of those left." I was like, great... He did then say they are ok but maintenance is paramount to keeping them running.

Anyhow, he was obviously a Cummins fan and had done the swaps before.

Good luck! Can't wait to hear more.

Could you use the 5r110 or even the newer 6 speed auto trans since you are using an adaptor plate anyway? It'd add to your mod costs, but I figure your trans if so old with the added torque you might benefit from upgrading while you are at it?

I went with the 4r100 for its the most dependable. A buddy of mine has a local trans shop an says between the 4r an 5r the 4r is 10times the transmission an will hold up alot better.

This should help. There is a FAQ section on the main home page of the whole forum.

Just cause he sees more 5r doesn't mean anything except that there are more of them on the road. I have never heard of anyone saying the 4 is more reliable andits been known to be a weak tranny from my research. I'm no expert but just warning you to do your own research instead of blindly following one persons opinion.
Either way good luck this shall be interesting!

I was curious about something. What are the specs on the Cummins engine you're putting in? How do they compare with say a 6.0l Powerstroke?

I noticed you had to buy a turbo for the Cummins. Did the donor engine not come with one or are you upgrading the stock turbo?

I assume all the accessories will be Cummins? (power steering pump, A/C, alternator, etc? Can you keep the Ford radiator and overflow tank?

I saw you mentioned an adapter plate for the trans. Does that mean you don't have to touch the Ford drive train? (no changes to drive shafts, etc)

Is your X 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive?
