Best fluid for 3spd manual transmission?

I'm a new owner of a 1968 F100 with the Ford light duty 3 speed manual (3 on the tree). I've read a lot about how newer fluids could attack (brass?) synchronizers...so I'm wondering what is best fluid for this old transmission.

Any help would be appreciated. I want to treat the truck right

Erik

It's called "Gear lube " not the same as automatic transmission fluid . Most of the time depending on your driving habits and temp. 80W/90 or a little heaver if in hot , desert conditions. Have you ever thought of going in to a parts supplier like NAPA or Auto zone and look at the lube containers or ask at the counter ?

I use Royal Purple 75W90. May be overkill, but it has served me well.
Buy Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W90 01300 at Advance Auto Parts

Yes. I did get the brilliant idea to go to an auto parts store before seeking out sarcasm on the internet. The problem is the counter folk handed me GL-5 gear lube, but couldn't address the affects of newer GL-5 gear lube on an old transmission's synchros...which is the point of my question.

______Call it "sarcasm" if you want to but it was a question and helpful suggestion only because some people don't know to do that. Besides i have no idea how much you know about trucks and cars. It sounded like it was all pretty new to you . Not a real good way for you to start out on a new forum with you second post . I won't be helping you in the future for sure .______Your first post was a ----question.____Dump what ever you want in it .__

You're right. My apologies. I got up on the wrong side of the bed and started typing before coffee. Totally wrong approach on my part.

Valvoline 80w90 or Lucas 85w140.

Btw, it (the lube) smells that way because of the high sulfur content. It is what cushions the mating/meshing surfaces.

The pump I used decided to pop off its tube and I got caught in the line of fire... It's really hard to get the smell out of clothing so wear your grubbies or exercise prudent caution.
