Moon Roof Troubles

Anybody have any problems with their moon roof. I have had the tracks break twice on my. First time was in the manufacturers warranty. Second time, should have been covered under the extended warranty (Dont get Advantage as an aftermarket warranty.) Warranty co. indicated that the rail parts are essentially considered "trim" and not covered. Had to yell and scream at my dealership but they came through and covered the repair. (~$800 parts and 6 hours labor).

the service writers indicated that they are seeing alot of these types of repairs. so wondering if anyone else has been having any problems.

I have no troubles .....but I only have 1800 miles on my truck. I will be mindful of this issue....

Sorry to hear about the Moon Roof Issues.

Mine were just starting to squeak yesterday. Sprayed a little white lithium grease on the rails and it stopped squeaking. No other issues.

I have the Ford Extended Warranty. Is the Advantage Warranty Co. from outside the dealership or through the dealership?

The Advantage was offered at the dealership as an alternative to the Ford ESP. The dealership has since said that Ford ESP would not cover the rails either but do not know the veracity of their claim.

Not sure if my troubles are that I dont use it enough and due to the extreme warm weather conditions here in Phoenix, the lube solidifies and allows for binding in the track and a failure occur.

my first one was covered no problem at 26K as part of the bumper to bumper. it was the 2nd one that i had to argue with them and still the warranty didnt cover it!!
The Sales department of the dealership covered it except for the deductible.
so my out of pocket was the same. It just seems to me a bit of a poor design if it is breaking twice in 2 years.

Mine broke this past winter. I was at the bus stop waiting with my son when he reached up and hit the button to open. It made a loud pop as the plastic ends on the drive part broke off. I had no idea what had happened. Apparently the gasket was froze and the glass did not pull down and the ends broke. I am out of warranty so I just pulled the fuse. I sure miss it for the summer heat to escape.

I have 6K on my '13 and haven't had any problems. I use the roof several times a day during these warm months and haven't heard any squeaking. I opened it on the way home from work today and wondered if I should be doing some sort of maintenance on it given all the use it sees.

I wonder if using silicone lube would help prolong the life?

Lube on the sunroof

I am wondering that with my recent experience. And if so what kind of lube and how often.

I think with my roof i didn't use it very often so when i did it stuck slightly and then that little bit pressure caused very weak parts to fail.

It is so funny sounding....moon roof. I have to admit we love our moon roof. The boys use it to search the wal mart parking lot for mom by standing on the console. Ours is quiet, seals very well, even though the 2012 has only 10K we have had torrential rain and hail and not a single drip inside. It moves a lot is all can say about my trucks moon roof but i read somewhere, the inside does need to be clean for drainage, free of dirt and bugs and whatnot. So I do that as routine maint. And also "refresh" the white lithium based lube I saw up there when the truck was new. I think they really have come a long way with problem free moon roofs, kinda surprised to hear about this. I would like to know how they claim something that when broken the option does not work is considered trim.
