Here are some interesting pics from FordDieselDoctor (FDDTS site)

Melted standpipe - cheezit (some time ago) noted that this starts to happen around 270-300 degrees F and melts completely at 350 degrees:

Photo proof for the reasons discussed here on why to use OEM filters!

Thanks Mark

Maybe Rich (lilpooh) won't mind me posting links to his pics!!! Here is a summary of his assessment on a "well traveled topic":

"Stopped to see Dale at the dealer. Showed me two filters that were on customers trucks. First pic, filter on left is Baldwin. Filter in middle is Motorcraft, filter on right is WIX.

Baldwin filter is shorter, has spring in center section, and broke the top section of oil filter stand pipe!! WTF. The WIX filter wasn't long enough, for the WIX oil cap, so it didn't seat the anti-drain valve!!

Lesson for today..... Stick with Motorcraft or Racor!"

I have only seen one melted standpipe, and it was completely gone. When I contacted the Hotline to get approval to replace the engine, they told me the oil temperature would have to have been over 350 degrees in order to melt the standpipe. It is hard to believe the engine would have run at that temperature, but evidently it did.

That's why Ford Motor Co. recommends Motorcraft Brand parts. Designed and built specifically for Ford Motor Co. vehicles.
