Power Steering Question

I found a power steering unit from a 55 or 56 F100. It looks like it is real similar to a 1959 setup. Will this unit work on my 1959 F100? Thanks for your input. Jim

Not the same. It would need modifications, and may be too difficult to make work.

I have been looking for a stock powersteering set-up for a 57-60 for a few years. Perhaps someday........

No P/S was available for 1953/56 F100's. It's a conversion probably using the power assist P/S parts from a 1953/64 Ford passenger car.

In the 1970's, Preston Ledbetter (now deceased), an ex-Ford partsman and owner of F100 Parts Unlimited in San Jose made up a conversion.

Preston cut the draglink, threaded it, then screwed on a P/S control valve from a 1953/60 Ford passenger car, adapted the ram cylinder from the same cars.

Used an Eaton P/S pump from the same cars. 1953/64 Eaton pump has the separate reservoir bolted atop the pump.

The unit I found is probably classified as a power assist unit. The pump has a round reservoir that bolts on top of the pump. It also has a hydraulic cylinder of some type that bolts to the axle I guess? Jim
