98 F150 Auto 4X4 MPG
Just finished 3000 mile trip, returned towing car on 2 axle trailer & light load, maybe 500 lb additional cargo. This F150 extended cab has had every tank logged & just turned 55,000 miles.
Empty the best MPG it ever got is scarcely over 16. Hauling this load on interstates going 70-75 MPH it got just over 12 MPG.

I get about 15-16mpgs as DD....I have the 5.4. recently I took it on a 1400mile round trip empty ...er' nearly so...mmm suppose 1000# under the tonnue cover on the way down....much less on the way back. WE managed to averaged 17mpgs round trip....same interstate speed as you. And have 164k on mine...you should have a lot of happy miles ahead
do you have the 4.6 or the 5.4?

Same truck with 8'box. Has a 200# ladder rack, tool boxes, ladders, tools....maybe 1000-1200 pds. as constant. I get about 13.5-14.25 in the summer in a mix of driving. But most days it may have another 500-600 pds. in it. I keep it at 62 mph if on the freeway and never any WOT stuff....maybe once a month or so to pass. Even in the dead of winter it has never fallen below 12mpg. I just recently went to Illinois and back with about half of that 1200pds. removed .....drove 65-68 mph on cruise with air on all the time and got 16 mpg.....that is the best I have ever got. I have 240,000 miles on that 4.6 and it's kinda' sad because the underside is just plain rotting away. I noticed the ladder rack was hitting the top of the cab sometimes. Here the front support for the box underneath was literally eaten away. I bolted a big piece of angle iron in its place.

I have a 2002 F150 Super Cab with an 8' bed and a ~300 fiberglass cap. In the winter I usually get ~13 mpg. In the warm weather I get ~15 mpg. I don't tow or carry lots of weight much any more. It's a 5 speed manual with the 4.6. All our gas is 10% ethanol. It doesn't seem to matter if I drive all highway or the usual secondary roads. My drive to work is 9.6 miles each way at 45 to 50 mph with a few traffic lights.
