engine temp lamp falty.

hi. I have a econoline 350 diesel 6'9 r.v. I bought the rv from England 3years ago. I now live in spain, near Malaga. the problem I have is the engine temp lamp. last year I drove to the local annual testing station.the day was very hot.88 degs. when I tried to start the rv,when I turned the key to the start passion the temp lamp came on and the engine turned over but would not start. I put it down to be a very hot engine, but the temp gauge was low to normal.i then tried again, and eventually got the engine started and every thing seemed to be normal on the way home, about 25 miles.for the past year every thing was fine, but afew days ago. I went to start the rv from cold. it started an then died after 5 seconds, then as I tried again the engine lamp came on as I tried to start it again.as the engine was cold I thought I have a sensore problem? I am 60 years old and have been a mechanic for 45 years, so am able to repair every thing that comes my way. but not having manual for the rv, I am a bit stuck. hope you can help. supamec123.

This is the forum for 1961-1967 Econolines. Not many of us know about later model vans. See if you can find the forum for the newer vans.

You don't need a shop manual for an RV, you need one for an E350. Try helminc.com

Class C motorhomes are mounted to E350 Cut-Away's. The body is 'cut-off behind the front seats.

Smile engine temp lamp?

thank you for your help in trying to sort out my problem. I have solved the problem. it had nothing to do with temp lamp, the problem was the water trap was so corroded it allowed the fuel to drain back to the tank, so it than had an air lock, it then had to self bleed the air out of the system, only it seemed to take forever to start the engine. but in reality, it was only 20 seconds. so maybe it might help somebody . supamek123.
