You should have more volts there I have 11 on mine, I think you can jumper wire stright from the battery to it, with out hurting it, it will bypass the key, you will have to pull the wire to shut off the truck.

I would bet, that while changing the ip, the wire broke inside the insulation

Unplug the the connector closest to the firewall on the ip, that will help if you have the pump advanced past 10 degrees.

Just because there's no water in the oil doesn't mean a head gasket is not blown. The water could be going directly in the piston chamber.
If you have a "heavy" amount of "white" smoke,,
it is a good indicator of a blown gasket.
