I sorta too the claim with a grain of salt, set the cruise at 63 for 95% of the 240 mile drive home. I was hoping to get 18-19 at those speeds. Was happy to see I actually got 21.85. Around town it's a different story, 16.5 usually, winter 14+ especially if I'm just making shorter trips.
That's pretty impressive MPG EWJ but gotta ask how much does your van weigh during your trips?

The 19 mpg at 75 sounds just a little better than the 17-18 I would expect out of my van with the same drivetrain (but mine is an '02 with the PI heads and a couple more horsepower).

Someday I should try 63 mph, but on the other hand I'd expect that I could be killed by traffic trying to pass me at 20 mph faster than I am traveling.

I have long believed that the 4.6 in an E150 is the best gas mileage drivetrain every put into a full size American van. And I believe the LTX's are the best possible tires for ride and gas mileage--it is amazing that Ford chose such a good tire as OEM on my van.

I travel fairly lightly on my trips and would assume that you are not carrying a big load (maybe 4 passengers and a bit of luggage).

What ever the stock weight of a Chateau Club Wagon weighs plus 270 lbs ballast behind the steering wheel! The previous owner on the trip he informed me of had a 400 lb motorcycle inside, third row bench removed, IIRC 100 more lbs tools and parts, a 75 lb dog and himself, I'd say around 190 lbs.

PS Sorry this reply is sooooo late. I use an old email address for notifications from this site and some times forget to check it for several months.

I filled the van today. 324.7 miles. Most of that on 9 cylinders at 70-80 mph. 23.77 gallons. 13.66 mpg.

97 E350 Club Wagon with a 6.8L V10 and 3.73 gears. I only expected 12 mpg.
