"Police Dark Mode" to stop the parking light display

I've been prowling the internet, looking for some information about how to turn off the parking light + cargo light display when the doors are opened and found something called "Police Dark Mode".

Apparently, it is a programming option within the diagnostic application used by the dealership. Once it is turned on, the dazzling light display that occurs when you open the door will stop, however; it's not clear if this shuts down the interior lights also.

I don't mind the interior lights coming on when the door opens but, the exterior light display doesn't make much sense.

Has anyone here had the "Police Dark Mode" turn on for their Super Duty truck?

Yeah ... I'd rather the cargo light to come on by flipping a switch.

That would be nice.

I don't mind the inside lights. But when I open the door my head lights come on, sucks.

I have a F250 that was a Texas DHS truck in a previous life. It must be running in the police dark mode you mention. There is no illumination, anywhere, when I open the doors to enter/exit the vehicle. I have to manually flip the switches on the ceiling of the cab to get any interior light. I've only had the truck for a few weeks, so I am yet undecided if I like that feature. It also came with rubber in place of carpeting, which I definitely like.

From what I understand, there is a mode that can be programmed for Public Safety vehicles that will not illuminate the exterior lights when certain events happen, but from what I have read that has to be done at the dealership.

It's useful to have the interior lights come on when you open the doors but, why have all the exterior lights come on, too?

I would love to disable the marker lights on every time the doors are opened.
This is a work truck not a soccer mom car

Disabling the door switch so the key in ignition chime and disable the courtesy lights was always a factory option on "police package" vehicles from Ford.

I could not find the option in the current 2013 specs for a police fleet F350 vehicle, however I found it for the 2013 Ford Utility Police Interceptor, aka Explorer, and the information & ordering code is

43D DARK CAR FEATURE DISABLES COURTESY LAMPS $20.00

An aftermarket company "unitrol" I believe sells a switch box with a a progressive slide toggle switch that allowed the vehicle operator to disable all the electronics of the vehicle except the engine. No interior lights, no exterior lights, no break lights, no horn.

I have sent am IM to one of my olde fleet people and asked if he knows if the F350 can be programed for Dark Car operation.

Ive asked about this tons of times!!! I hope we find a solution. I really hate not being able to open the door of my truck without it lighting up like a Christmas tree. Call me a crazy prepper but there are situations where that could be very bad, not to mention the 20,000 times someone says "hey you left your lights on!!!"

Kind of a "all or nothing" solution, huh?

Like others, I would like to disable this feature with a switch. There are times I like the feature - like in parking lots. I don't like it in campgrounds. I don't want to disable the horn.
