6.7 F250 to possible F150

Just food for thought...I wanted to keep my options open and WAITED for max tow due to the 3.73 gearing, the upgraded radiator and trans cooler, the TOW MIRRORS, and the upgraded hitch (which some believe is the same hitch).
Why can't they get the one you want with max tow??My dealer was capable of getting it trucked to me if I desired. I just got lucky and found what I wanted locally. (After a LOT of waiting!)
Don't sacrifice the very things you really want in your truck like the mirrors and max tow...or you may regret your decision later.
HOWEVER...if you never plan on towing anything over say 9,500 lbs. You could get your truck with the 3.55's or even the 3.31's to save on non towing fuel milage. You can always get the tow mirrors from eBay like Trailblazen did...and he loves the mirrors. I get a good chuckle that they call them PADDLE lamps...LOL How you can have a typo like that I have no idea. The mirrors are not power extending like the max tow mirrors would be but are heated and power folding.

Just keep in mind of your towing limitations with certain engines.
Lariat with screw 6'5' bed and 4X4 with 3.55's eLock and 5.0L payload is 1,570 lbs. and tow weight of 7,500 lbs.
The same lariat with the ecoboost but with only 3.31's eLock payload is 1,560 lbs. and jumps to 9,100 lbs. towing.
That same lariat with 3.55 eLock gearing has the same payload of 1,560 lbs. but slightly increases to 9,500 lbs. towing.
Obviously the ecoboost is rated with higher towing capacity so if you are not planning on one day towing in the upper range there is no need to get the max tow. You have some decision making to do but at least you have the background now.
Before I end this and someone says what about the 6.2L here they are respectively :
You cannot get the 6.2 with anything less than 3.55 eLock gearing payload jumps up to 1,730 lbs. and 9,500 lbs. towing. 3.73 eLock gearing the payload is 1,730 lbs. payload and 11,000 towing. With 3.73 eLock gearing (which is max tow) the payload jumps up to 1,950 and towing to 11,200 lbs. Yes these numbers are better than the ecoboost if you are willing to give up about 3-4 mpg roughly then go for it!

Interesting, I have towed my 4500ish lb Lund with the f150 and f250. I mean its not horrible the way the f150 tows it, but it starts to toss it around where as the f250 barely feels it, if at all.
It's not a power issue, just the stability I like, even with the lighter loads.

Made the switch about 2 months ago. Had a 2011 6.7 crew cab XLT and went to a 2013 F-150 FX4 Ecoboost. Loved the 6.7 but I don't tow much and decided I wanted the better ride. Couldn't be happier.
As for the mirrors I would also like the tow mirrors. If I was you and that was all the vehicle didn't have, see if the dealer will work some kind of trade and swap them out. They are about $440 new from the dealer, but maybe they would work a trade. Can't hurt to try. I would have tried if I knew that they could be swapped out.

Just Curious, $440 each? Or the set?

For the set. Or you can get some aftermarket knockoffs for much cheaper.

I traded my 2005 F-250, 6.0 for a 2008 F-250, Crew Cab, King Ranch in 2008. After crappy mpg and horrible regens, I traded it in for a 2010 F-150. I kept the F-150 for about 45 days and bought a 2011 F-250, crew cab, king ranch, 6.7 in late 2010 because I felt cramped in the smaller truck. In late 2011, I traded in for a 2011 F-150, crew cab, 5.0 lariat. I did this trade because I could not justify the higher maintenance and fuel cost and business was not that great. I love the 5.0, F-150 but have missed my super duty. Now that my business is doing well, I am planning on buying a new F-250 diesel tomorrow. I finally tired of the short bed of the F-150 requiring the useless angled tool box due to the fender wheels.

I went from a 2005 F250 to a 2011 F150 with ecoboost. Kept it until April when I got a F250 with the 6.7. It drove and rode like a tank. City mpg was worse than my eco, hwy was about the same and towing was only 1-3 mpg better. Got rid of the F250 and am now back in a 2013 ecoboost.
The only time I miss the heavier 3/4 ton is if I am towing a load of cows and they start moving around in the trailer or if towing my travel trailer in a strong wind. For 99% of the time the F150 is better. It rides better, looks better and is cheaper to maintain.

I am still on the fence about getting rid of my 2000 PSD. Only has 115k miles and is in excellent shape, but really want something newer, and love the 150 crew cab. At this point I would go with the HD payload, 5.0 engine, long bed. BUT the new transit vans have caught my attention so I may wait and see what they are like.

Well picked her up last night, 2013 F150 Lariat SCrew Ecoboost with the max tow package and 17 miles on the odometer. The truck has everything I wanted except the longer bed which was just that a want not a need. I don`t know if they could have put another option on it, I`m very impressed with the truck overall and no regrets. I can see alot more people go from the SuperDuty trucks to the ecoboost if they are like me and want a well manored daily driver with the ability to still tow a considerable amount of weight when needed. I was able to negociate 11,300.00 off MSRP and they paid the F250 Off on top of that so I feel like I got a good deal.

Hello,
I don't usually post outside of the 48-56 forum, but I'm in the market for a new tow vehicle. My son recently bought an ecoboost F150 & I had to start researching specs on these trucks. I was a little apprehensive about the V6, but the torque specs look pretty good. I currently tow my boat with another brand of pickup, but it is a 3/4 ton truck....it's rated at 270 ft.-lb, so the ecoboost with 420 should be just fine. My normal towing weight is around 5000 pounds.
I have been working on a couple of nearby dealers....so far the best one is offering me $9,500 off the MSRP on an XLT extended cab version. That's not a bad starting point. It has a tow package but not max tow...it is also equipped with the 3.31 gears. I'm wondering if I should get the dealers to find one with the 3.55 setup. Either way...I'm subscribed to this thread now, so I'll keep an eye on what you guys are finding out there....Labor day weekend sales are just around the corner!!
