Transmission problems

Hello all. My name is Kyle and I'm having some problems with my 1993 lightning. This is the first automatic truck I have owned so I'm a little lost when it comes to problems like these. So I bought a 1993 lightning that had been sitting for 10 years without running. After changing fuel injectors and other minor things I got the truck running. I took it for a test drive for the first time and noticed it shifted very hard in to every gear. It shifts like a manual trans when you dump the clutch. Yeah that hard! Anyone have a idea what it is. A little back info......... The od light is not flashing, I hook up the computer and got a high voltage / low voltage code and a code that said engine could not establish idle. The truck runs like crap when it starts then a check engine light comes on after a mile and the truck runs ok once the check engine light turns on. Any ideas? I'm more interested in the tranny problems but thought all info might help. Any ideas? It has a e40d trans in it.

Did you flush the tranny and install new fluid? After so many years, the tranny may be gummed up and the valves take more pressure to move....allowing the shift to happen.

You may look.into the idle air control valve as gar as the idle. Again, lots of crud can build up over the years of not running.

Just a update I changed the idle control valve and it fixed everything. Tranny works great now too. I guess the computer went in to safe mode. Thanks for the help. It's much appreciated !!!!!!!
