Anyone replaced a horn tip on a F-250 4x4?

Frame is in great shape EXCEPT......

Maybe 10 year ago, the battery fell over and leaked down the passenger side front frame rail, and has rusted completely through: I swear the only thing holding the leaf spring shackle from coming completely off the frame is the snow plow frame.

Ive located a good frame end, (Collis truck parts, Northampton, PA) and Im a competent enough welder to make it WAY better than new.

Im going to replace it all the way to the frame crossmember, and plate it from the inside and outside after stitching the "Z" cut closed with my handy MIG.

.....has anyone else done this before? Ideas? suggestions?

Sounds like it will work "fish plate" is what I believe they call that type of repair. Just make sure it is all lined up and stays that way during welding.

I would make a 1" angle iron jig, and attach it to the other side to help keep it all square.
